Hope for Earth Day

So it's Earth Day.
We all can do our part to help return our planet to a healthy and safe environment for ourselves and for the other life forms we share this awesome planet with.
I have recently been eating organic...this not only creates more jobs for farmers in this time of recession but it also prevents chemicals and pesticides from polluting the ground. I strongly urge all of you to look into buying organic and check out sustainable farming methods and to buy from local farmers who practice these.

That being said, I think that this day should not only raise our awareness of environmental issues but of the issues that can better all of mankind. Equality, health care, education...these are all issues that are being placed on ballots around the country and we all need to educate ourselves and make decisions when voting that are fair and loving for each other and for the future of our children!

I wrote a song recently that will be on the upcoming CD...no one has heard it yet so this is a sneak preview for ya! It's a song about change, about love, about faith and about "Hope".
Enjoy!

Run Away

Hey folks!
So yesterday I had a chance to catch up with the extremely talented and extremely busy Rebecca Norris who is producing some of the tracks on the album.
It was so nice to catch up with her, and hear what's been going on in her life, and to have some coffee (in the unusually cool weather that Southern California has thrown our way this week) around a fire pit at The Coffee Bean!
The next song that we are going to start working on together is a song that I wrote called "Run Away". It will lend itself more to the acoustic end of the musical spectrum but we both agreed, that because of the romantic references of nature and humanity in the lyric, we wanted to play around with putting some really organic ambient sounds in the song as well! I can't wait to hear how it turns out and I'll keep you all posted. I think y'all will LOVE it!

I thought I'd post the lyrics here for you all to read and include a little artwork I did inspired from the song!

Run Away
(by Val White)

Breathe in...breathe out, but don't make a sound.
I wanna hear your heart beating loud and clear.
With or without; money makes the world go 'round,
but it also brings us fear.
We must find a way to look within.
We must find a way to go where no man has ever been.

I want to run with you to the open fields, to the water.
I want to fly with you through centuries of time and space,
and make the world a better place.
And one day we will find someplace we can hide
and we'll run away.
We'll run so far away.

You move slowly across the room
like a misty fog moves across the morning.
I hold you close and I hear our hearts beating two by two.
I hear a melody forming.
We must find a way to write our love song down.
We must find a way to let the world hear this sound.

I want to run with you to the open fields, to the water.
I want to fly with you through centuries of time and space,
and make the world a better place.
And one day we will find someplace we can hide
and we'll run away.
We'll run so far away.

Who Am I? (aka Identity Theft)

At the end of any given day I think we all go through the highs and lows of highs and lows.
I know that if I've been productive and creative and added something of beauty to the world then I usually feel good about myself at the end of the day.
If I've worked out and eaten healthy I usually feel good about myself at the end of the day.
If I've been slacking on things that I want or need to do sometimes I feel bad about myself.
If I compare myself to the seemingly flawless adonis who is running through the park; nearly naked, and permeating sex appeal, self confidence, and overall perfection through every bead of glistening sweat dripping down his back...I sometimes feel bad about myself at the end of the day.

It is in these times of 'down' that I have to ask myself "Who Am I?"
Who is the person who looks back at me from the mirror?
Who is the real me?...not the me who is feeling inadequate, unproductive, or maybe even unloved in the throws of life's circumstances.
The me who is inside...creating life, creating love, creating experiences that bring joy to others..to the people I love...to the people I may not even know personally but have somehow touched through my actions, that is the me who makes me feel good about myself at the end of the day.

I am Val. I like to sing and write songs. I like to cook. I don't like to do dishes.
I love to sit at home with my love watching tv or listening to music...sometimes ballroom dancing (after a few glasses of wine) in the living room of our bungalow apartment.
I like to make my family proud. I like to be around children. I like to hear the sound of my daughter's laughter.

You get to decide who you are. Isn't that empowering?

Two days ago I was a victim of identity theft. Someone, somehow got enough information about me and my bank account to withdraw several hundred dollars from my account.
I had to call the bank and say 'That wasn't me.'
I have to file a police report. My account is now frozen. All of this is being investigated and looked over with a fine tooth comb by the 'identity theft' department.
All of this will resolve itself in time and in the grand scheme of things is inconsequential.
But when I spoke those words 'that wasn't me...I didn't do that' It made me realize that though someone can steal your bank account number, steal your pin number, steal your money...they cannot steal your true identity. Only you are who you are and no petty thief can take that away from you!

So tonight as I lay my head down on the pillow I will feel good about the fact that I get to choose who I am, how I respond to the circumstances life throws my way, the kind of character that I present to others everyday and hold dear in my heart of hearts in my private being.
I am me. There will never be another me.
I vow to be the best me that I can be!

Inaug-Blog

Hey everyone!
Here is this first blog to kick off my new website!
I've been working really hard on getting the album finished for you all!
The CD is going to be a great story with many chapters.
It's going to be multi-genre encompassing all of the styles you've seen me do live...country, pop, acoustic, folky, inspirational, and there's even going to be a couple of lullaby's on it!
I'm very excited to be working with the very talented Rebecca Norris on some of the more produced tracks!
And I'm producing some of the more acoustic stuff myself!

I'm also really happy to have teamed up with Eternite Media, LLC. who is going to be working with me on my merchandising, sales, and branding.

I can't wait for you to hear it! I can't wait to hear back from you...to hear how my music has, hopefully, provided a segment of the soundtrack to your life.

There will be some samples of the songs added to the website as we draw nearer to the release so check back often and join the mailing list so you can keep up with what's going on!

More to come soon!

XOXO
